Shaela Miller and Skinny Dyck

A night of alternative country / country, but not with Shaela Miller and Skinny Dyck from Lethbridge, AB

Resist the urge to laugh at Skinny Dyck - the alias of western Canada’s Ryan Dyck (or don’t, that’s kind of the idea). The new album Easygoing sees Dyck moving a few steps further away from the country music environs he once wholly inhabited, but fear not, as the “distilled the spirit of wide-cut country” (Exclaim!) lives deep in the blood.

Shaela Miller is one of Canada’s most compelling voices, a songwriter who bridges country and new wave with cinematic flair and fearless honesty. Her 2024 album After the Masquerade (Neon Moon Records), produced by Graham Lessard (Stars, Basia Bulat, The Barr Brothers), marked a striking evolution for the Lethbridge-born artist. From the pulsing basslines of “Mourning Tonight” to the brooding synthscapes of “Of Roses,” the record captures Miller at her most confident, unafraid to mix twang with tension and heartbreak with dancefloor energy.
